Rococo:

French artistic movement & style, early to late 18th-century (Late Baroque);  affecting all the arts: painting, sculpture, architecture, interior design, decoration, literature, music, and theatre; a reaction against the grandeur, symmetry & strict regulations of the earlier Baroque architectural style (Versailles); originated in Paris, employed more jocular, florid & graceful approaches, ornate with light colours, asymmetrical designs, curves & gold; rather than political it used playful and witty themes; strongly influenced by chinoiserie, frequently in association with Chinese figures & pagodas.
