“manifolds” of n:
Being an n-manifold is a topological property, meaning that any topological space homeomorphic to an n-manifold is also an n-manifold.
A 1-dimensional manifold is often called a curve while a 2-dimensional manifold is called a surface. (and see page 74)

a technique in music of setting, writing, or playing a melody or melodies in conjunction with another, according to fixed rules; the relationship between voices that are harmonically interdependent (polyphony) yet independent in rhythm and contour; commonly identified in the European classical tradition, strongly developing during the Renaissance and common practice during the Baroque period.
