 The art of the Fugue (BWV 1080), is an unfinished work by JS Bach, composed 1748-1750, published in 1751, a year after his death.  In writing these 14 fugues and 4 canons he demonstrated his complete mastery of the most complex musical counterpoint, achieving particularly elaborate & ingenious combinations of relatively simple themes in pieces which attain the highest musicality.
