folk psychology:
philosophy (1860) by Germans M. Lazarus (1824-1903) and H. Steinthal (1823-1899) in 1860; which argued that truth must be sought not in metaphysical or a priori abstractions but in psychological investigation; this investigation cannot confine itself to the individual consciousness but to society as a whole. The psychologist must study mankind from the historical or comparative standpoint, analyzing elements which constitute the fabric of society, with its customs, conventions & main tendencies of its evolution; a reaction to the scientific standpoint of natural philosophers, but also against the individualism of the positivists.
