Luxor and Karnak:*

Karnak Temple Complex (a vast mix of decayed temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings); most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom.

 

At Luxor Ramses II built his memorial temple (Ramesseum), records indicate that work on the project began shortly after the start of his reign and continued for 20 years; contains one of the largest remaining colossal statues ever discovered; aside from the escalation of scale (each successive New Kingdom pharaoh strove to outdo his predecessors in volume and scope) this temple largely follows earlier architectural patterns.

first given as a special title to Augustus (27 BC) who realized the title “rex” would cause resentment among the senators (many who had demonstrated their disapproval by supporting the assassination of Julius Caesar).  Augustus while supreme in politics and the army needed the assistance of his fellow Romans to manage the Empire.
