Includes a host of different Semitic peoples- the Jews from around 400 BC, primitive Christians, various Arabian cults to include Islam, Mazda, Zoroaster. Its world feeling was the concept of world as cavern, epitomized by the domed Mosque, and a preoccupation with essence. It produced a number of totemic books: the scriptures of the Jews, Persians, Christian, post Classical and Manichean religions. He believed its development had been distorted by the influential presence of older Civilizations, and the initial vigorous expansion of Islam was in part a reaction against this.
