The Stoa Poikile or Painted Porch, erected 5th century BC , Athens; the philosophical school of Stoicism takes its name from having first been expounded here by Zeno, derived from the Greek word stoa.

sculpted in Gandhara (ancient region of the Peshawar basin NW India), unknown artist

3rd century-4th century AD; a large unadorned halo frames the Buddha’s head.  It is an image of great majesty and quiet authority, a quintessential icon of the Buddha as the master of yoga.
