Meander: *
Vase paintings with meanders usually boasted of a decorative border painted from a continuous line. This Chalice from Chios (dating to 600 BC) is a classic example of this. It uses an ornamental frieze which depicts wild goats walking in succession of each other. The painting also incorporates other motifs like hook meanders and a false meander. The meanders are painted in a row with six horizontal bars. see below

Acanthus-shoot: *
Remains of a composite capital of a Corinthian column in Ephesus. A composite capital is an Ionic capital placed over a Corinthian capital with the Ionic volutes at the corners, perhaps reduced in size and importance, above the two ranks of stylized acanthus leaves. The leaves may be quite stiff, schematic and dry, or they may be extravagantly drilled and undercut, naturalistic and spiky. see below
