the daughter of the mountain king Himavan and queen

Mena; the mother of Hindu deities Ganesha and Kartikeya.

The Puranas refer to her as the sister of the

god Lord Vishnu and the river-goddess Ganga.

With Shiva, she is a central deity in the Shaiva sect.

Demeter of Cnidus: *

The statue is made of marble and is seated on a throne.  

The head was carved independently from the body

and fixed onto the neck. Demeter is depicted in a serene,

timeless manner that reveals her motherly role in the

Greek pantheon of gods.

Raphael’s Sistine Madonna: *

Pigment analysis reveals pigments of the renaissance

period such as malachite mixed with orpiment (green

drapery on top of the painting), natural ultramarine

mixed with lead white (blue robe of Madonna) and a

mixture of lead-tin-yellow, vermilion & lead white

(the yellow sleeve of St Barbara).
