Sir Walter Scott:

(1771- 1832) Scottish historical novelist; wrote many classics of both English-language literature & Scottish literature; most famous titles: Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, Old Mortality, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian & The Bride of Lammermoor.  Remembered for his writing, he was also an advocate, judge and legal administrator by profession (serving as Clerk of Session & Sheriff-Depute of Selkirkshire); prominent member of the Tory establishment in Edinburgh.

 

Quentin Durward:

historical novel by Scott (1823) about a Scottish archer in the service of the French King Louis XI (1423–1483).
