Spengler makes the point that the meaning he assigns to his words are not amenable to definition or proof; he points to the distinction between experience as lived and experience as learned. The experience as lived consists of intuition, illumination, inspiration, artistic flair; it uses analogy, picture, symbol. The experience as learned consists of rational procedure and technical experiments and uses formula, law, scheme.
